How Transparency Can Transform Company Culture

It takes time and strategic planning to build a trustworthy and reputable company where employees feel valued and enjoy their jobs. One key element in this process is transparency. Over the years, employees and customers alike have become more attuned to the details of the companies they are doing business with. This means that companies must focus on being forthright with sharing essential information in a timely manner.

Companies that practice ongoing transparency build a greater sense of trust and respect with employees. Everyone understands goals and objectives and how the company plans to get there. When teams are working together and everyone is on the same page, it transforms into “we” rather than “us versus them.”

Transparency also empowers employees to become more involved in problem solving and decision making. They have access to the resources and information they need to make more informed decisions and create innovative solutions. They can become more engaged in their work and achieving organizational goals because they feel valued and respected; they’re working toward something they understand and believe in because management has promoted transparency.

Companies can’t always share every detail, especially in confidential or highly sensitive matters, but they can be honest about what information is available. This can help to dispel unrest that secrets are being kept or the company is not being upfront. Relevant information should be shared in a timely manner and through appropriate channels.
