Substance Abuse Programs

Substance Abuse Programs

Northbound’s Substance Abuse Treatment Programs work. Our clients get well, and families heal as a direct result of what is at times a challenging journey together. Whether you have a drug addiction, are struggling with alcohol abuse, or are experiencing a co-occurring disorder, we offer a variety of different recovery programs at different levels of care so you can find an individualized treatment plan that’s best for you.

Our foundational substance abuse treatment programs and signature services are 100% tailored to the needs and complexities of each individual who walks through our doors. Whether it be a 4-day stay in our Detox Program or a layered curriculum that might involve staying with us in one of our highly successful Residential Treatment Programs that is coupled with a signature service such as our trademarked Careerbound®, Trauma, or Music Programs. Our commitment is to help take participants through their active addiction to the first critical milestone of achieving one year of continuous sobriety and beyond, where we may serve as somewhat of a checks and balances system. After our patients go through detoxification, we guide them through behavioral therapy and teach them prevention techniques so they can achieve long-term recovery post-rehab.

“I set my goals and accomplished them while Northbound staff stood by my side and help me develop a life.”

— Josh C.

Addiction does not discriminate whatsoever. It cuts across socioeconomic lines, it affects all walks of life regardless of status, power, prestige, rank, the color of skin, sexual orientation, religious backgrounds, or the like.

By the time we become adults, we have an ingrained psyche and behavioral patterns, and, in the case of addiction, are incredibly complex; often deeply rooted in what in the treatment or rehabilitation industry we term co-occurring disorders. Co-occurring disorders occur when the individual suffers from both a substance abuse addiction as well as mental health disorders. That is why we have developed a curriculum for our substance abuse programs that almost serve as an à la carte menu to address the unique needs that you may have within the duration of your journey. While you may just come to us for Detox, which can be as brief as four days, many individuals enrolled in our substance abuse rehab programs are with us all the way to their milestone of achieving one continuous year of sobriety and become active participants in our thriving alumni community.

What Programs Does Northbound Treatment Services® Offer?

Drug Detox Programs

The first step toward developing a lifestyle of recovery is becoming substance-free. Unfortunately, many do not realize the delicate nature of transitioning the body from active substance use to abstinence and can inadvertently put themselves in harm’s way by not seeking appropriate oversight. Due to strong cravings, physical discomfort, social pressures, and psychological/emotional habits, the first few days and weeks of recovery are extremely challenging and pose a high risk for relapse.

Northbound Treatment Services® is proud to offer a fully licensed drug and alcohol sub-acute residential detox center in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. This sub-acute residential detox center provides a safe, supervised environment where clients can achieve abstinence in order to overcome the symptoms of withdrawal and begin the healing process.

Men’s and Women’s Residential Treatment Centers

Engaging in addiction treatment is not easy. It takes courage, perseverance, and humility, but the transformations that await those who put in the effort are often awe-inspiring and most certainly worth the effort.

Northbound’s Residential Treatment Programs are located in the coastal region of Newport Beach, California, a breathtaking and recovery-rich area, an inspiring atmosphere to help clients focus on healing, one that provides world-class opportunities for healthy activities and sobriety fellowships. Our Men’s and Women’s Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Services, also known as inpatient rehab, provides a safe and structured environment with limited temptations that combines holistic therapies, evidence-based treatment, educational and experiential modalities where participants work hand-in-hand with our interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure that their plan aligns with individualized needs and goals in order to help them thrive in recovery.

LINKS: Our Residential Christian Treatment Programs

The name “LINKS” refers to the link between the best practices of addiction medicine and the principles of Christianity. Individuals who are strong in their religious convictions will face the same struggles as those with no religious affiliations, as addiction does not discriminate. However, faith can be a strong source of support in treatment and recovery. Participants in LINKS may find that reconnecting with their faith in a Christian-based residential treatment program is the motivation they need to commit to their recovery and live to their fullest potential.

Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Developing a comprehensive recovery lifestyle takes time and targeted effort. Intensive outpatient rehab whether near our residential program locations in Orange County or engaging in treatment part time while residing off-campus (often in a sober living environment) is a vital aspect of the treatment continuum. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for addiction and underlying mental health disorders is designed for those participants living in the Orange County, and who are motivated to balance their recovery with other real-life responsibilities and pursuits. In outpatient, individuals put into practice relapse prevention and healthy living strategies that they’ve learned in prior phases of treatment.

Addiction Support Services

Addiction Support Services refers to the phase of treatment that follows discharge when you no longer require the intensity of primary treatment. At Northbound Treatment Services®, our professionally-designed discharge plan helps clients continue to re-orient their behavior to the ongoing reality of a sober lifestyle. Our Addiction Support Services are designed to allow clients to increase their independence or review their progress in overcoming drug addiction – continuing in the journey to build a positive, healthy, successful, and fulfilling lifestyle.

Medically Assisted Treatment

MAT is the use of medicines in a drug or alcohol treatment regimen.

Why Northbound Treatment Services® Believes in MAT

Northbound Treatment Services® employs evidence-based practices, so we know that medications can be a helpful and sometimes essential aspect of a treatment regimen. Professional recommendations are made after intensive, individualized assessments considering factors including drug abuse patterns, past treatment experiences, relapse history, projected course of care, family and peer support, recovery prognosis, financial feasibility, and client preference. Clients are educated on the advantages and risks of various MAT protocols and are included in collaborative treatment planning identifying the course of care that will best meet their unique needs.

MAT is Just One Aspect of Treatment

All MAT protocols occur alongside comprehensive psychosocial treatment, as studies reveal conclusively that the combination of psychotherapy and social support greatly enhance the efficacy of medications when intervening on opioid dependence. Regardless of the medications selected by the person in treatment and his or her medical team, well-rounded treatment is provided to maximize chances for that person to not only feel better but also to truly discover who they are and enjoy a high-quality life free from active addiction.

What Sets Northbound Treatment Services® Apart?

Back to our founding programmatic philosophy: Much like the complexity of facing and conquering addiction, treatment programs need to be comprehensive and resolutely individualized. The leading factor about the model at Northbound Treatment Services® is that no two treatment plans are the same. Our signature services define us and set us apart.

We’ve carved out programmatic services that, when combined or layered on top of our Residential, Outpatient, and Addiction Support Services Programs, create a truly individualized path to recovery that drives the results that Northbound has become known for industry-wide. During your first call with us, you will complete an individualized assessment where we tailor a programmatic curriculum that will set you up for success in your road to recovery. These programs strengthen your likelihood to thrive not only in recovery, but also in life beyond treatment.

This program enables those in treatment to enroll in school—whether that’s a local college, university, or trade school—and includes the guidance and mentoring they need to succeed.

Our proprietary work program empowers those in recovery to secure employment—with the help of a Northbound career counselor—while continuing to thrive in their sobriety.

The Northbound DBT program is facilitated by our masters-prepared, DBT-trained therapists who help participants explore DBT skills that focus on gaining awareness, understanding, and insight into their own recovery.

Individuals who have suffered psychological trauma and who are chemically dependent require an integrated treatment approach, so we are focused on identifying and treating trauma symptoms as well as dependency.

The music program at Northbound empowers clients to engage with music and promote healing through self-expression, complementing other therapies to create a personalized approach to addiction recovery.

Over the course of four days each month, family members come together to reconnect with the person in treatment, repair relationships damaged by drug and alcohol abuse, and learn about the roots of addiction.
