About Northbound Treatment

About Northbound’s Drug And Alcohol Treatment Centers

Northbound Treatment Center is a leading drug addiction treatment center dedicated to transforming the lives of people struggling with addiction & co-occuring mental health disorders.

Our Story

Northbound was initially founded in 1988 under the name National Therapeutic Services (NTS). IN 2008, Paul Alexander acquired the organization and grew it from a local Orange County facility into a nationally recognized treatment provider. Along with senior management, Alexander began to rebrand NTS as a company that emphasized organizational health through top-down transparency, authenticity, and honesty. This creates a company culture that reflects the same values we instill upon our clients during treatment. As they discussed this new culture and motivation, there was a reference to the Northbound train and the positive connotations of “heading north”. The organization’s new name, Northbound, emerged.

Our Philosophy

Addiction is not a moral failing or lack of willpower. It is a primary, progressive, chronic and potentially fatal disease centered in the brain. Oftentimes it is impacted by mental health conditions as well as environmental factors. Addiction is a vicious cycle that is difficult to break without professional treatment.

Northbound believes in recovery. We believe in transparency and honesty; and we believe that through our proven continuum of care, clients can be successful in overcoming addiction and maintaining sobriety. Treatment encompasses biological, social, spiritual, and psychological interventions that align with client needs as they progress through each phase of treatment.

Our treatment programs are rooted in evidence-based therapies, our innovative In Vivo® model of care, and the principles of the 12 Steps. Our clients engage in gender-specific, holistic treatment and work closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team to customize their care and provide support along each step of the way.

At Northbound, it is our mission and our motivation to help as many people as possible to achieve a successful and fulfilled life beyond addiction.

We believe that change is possible. We know firsthand that while in the depths of addiction and mental health disorders, embarking on the process of recovery can feel overwhelming. We also know that not all treatment programs are created equal and that the right enviroment and support are critical to achieving lifelong recovery. We assist our clients in celebrating one year of continuous sobriety.

We believe that our history conveys legitimacy, and we have 30+ years of transforming lives at our treatment centers to prove it.

We’ve become a leader within the treatment industry. We’ve created a place where all individuals are guaranteed a feeling of trust and safety. Whether you’re on staff or someone walking through the door looking for treatment, it is vital to our leadership that organizational health is at the top of our mission objectives.

Northbound Treatment Services is comprised of the top doctors, therapists, addiction counselors, psychologists, and clinical social workers, who are passionately committed to helping people achieve long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction.

More than 30 years of helping thousands achieve recovery.

Our comprehensive continuum of care has supported thousands of individuals to overcome addiction disorders and substance abuse. At Northbound, we strive to show individuals how to overcome addiction and offer help to those who suffer from underlying mental health disorders that prevent them from leading fulfilling lives.

Everyone’s experience with addiction is different. At Northbound, clients are able to find the path to recovery that works best for them. With a menu of options, treatment planning and program placement are flexible and adaptable to each individual’s needs and goals. Our clients will work with a case manager and therapist to monitor their progress and determine the next steps in their journey. Northbound recognizes that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to addiction recovery, and clients are empowered to be an integral part of the decision-making process.

Northbound’s innovative In Vivo® (or “in life”) model of treatment centers around giving clients appropriate opportunities to experience the joys, challenges, stresses, and successes of “real life” while within our supportive treatment environment. Our clients gain more independence and are challenged to engage more fully in real-life activities and pursuits as they progress through our program and grow in their recovery. They are gradually given opportunities to attend classes at local colleges or trade schools, re-enter the workforce, enjoy community events or concerts, and use cell phones and laptops. As individuals encounter challenges in daily life, they have the support and guidance of the Northbound staff and community to overcome these obstacles and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Through this model, our clients realize that they do have the strength and skills to make positive choices. This gradual independence helps to ease the transition back into society, builds self-efficacy and confidence, and enables clients to develop a fulfilling and lasting lifestyle of recovery. Northbound meets clients where they are at in their recovery journey and empowers them to thrive. Living a life of sustained recovery is possible; Northbound can help you get there.

Our Guiding Forces

Northbound Treatment achieves success through our commitment to our three strategic anchors: Clinical Innovation (how we serve our clients), Service Excellence (how we support our people), and Organizational Health (how we maintain our culture).

What We Believe

At Northbound Treatment, our core beliefs regarding substance abuse and mental illness are based on the education and experience both personally and professionally of our committed team.

We understand the challenges of addiction and help give you a higher chance at a successful recovery.

Effective treatment requires a tried-and-true clinical plan.

Ours encompasses biological, social, spiritual and psychological interventions that align with client needs as they progress through each phase of treatment. Our programs are rooted in the principles of the 12 Steps along with evidence-based therapies.

Successful treatment plans depend on trust.

Over and over, we hear from alumni that they couldn’t have achieved lasting sobriety without the help of our warm, compassionate staff. In fact, one third of the Northbound TreatmentServices® team are alumni themselves, so there is a real understanding of what someone walking through our doors for the first time is going through. Staff members from therapists and psychologists to addiction counselors and clinical social workers are passionately committed to helping people achieve long-term recovery from addiction. They work to establish trust, and from this foundation comes lasting recovery.

Each treatment plan is unique.

Northbound Treatment recognizes the complexities that come along with treating addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. As a result, we focus on delivering fully integrated treatment plans that are both flexible and adaptive to each of our client’s individual needs as they progress through the phases of recovery.

It’s important to have a tangible goal to work toward.

We focus on getting you to one year of sobriety: We have helped thousands achieve what we found is one of the most meaningful goals on the path to lifelong recovery.

It’s even more important to learn how to have a sober lifestyle, long-term.

Throughout our innovative In Vivo® model of care, we guide you beyond one year of continuous sobriety onto the next phase of your life. Our clients engage in gender-specific, holistic treatment, and work closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team who customizes their expertise into a fully individualized treatment plan and provides support along each step of the way.
