Navigating your insurance coverage isn’t always easy. Insurance is continuously changing in terms of rules, in-network providers, deductibles, and co-pay costs — and if you switch plans, you have to start all over again with figuring out what’s covered. At Northbound Treatment, we believe that when you’re struggling with addiction, figuring out how to pay for treatment should be the last thing on your mind.

If you or a loved one is suffering from drug addiction or alcoholism, you’ve come to the right place. There’s no better time than the present to begin the journey to recovery, and we encourage you to start today. Worrying about your insurance coverage or finding the financial resources to cover rehab shouldn’t stop you from getting treatment. Northbound is here to help you determine what’s covered by your insurance plan. Find information about First Health rehab coverage for detox, addiction, and mental health disorders below.

First Health Insurance for Drug and Alcohol Treatment

First Health Network covers residential and outpatient rehab for drug and alcohol addiction. The insurance company has in-network providers in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico. About 95% of Americans live within 20 miles of a First Health provider. If you need care outside of a regular doctor’s visit — to see a specialist, go to the hospital, get mental health counseling, or get treatment for substance abuse — First Health can help you find a provider or facility in your area. Since residential rehab facilities aren’t always close to home, many people choose treatment centers in other states.

When you log into your First Health account online, you should be able to review the specifics of what your plan covers in terms of drug and alcohol treatment. If you’re unable to find the information you need, we recommend calling your insurance company. That being said, Northbound is prepared to help you understand your policy. More details about First Health rehab coverage can be found below.

Helping You Navigate Your First Health Policy

Northbound Treatment accepts all major insurance plans, including First Health Network, for our detox, residential rehab, and outpatient programs. Health insurance policies tend to include confusing language, and it can be tough to figure out exactly what is covered under your plan — especially for a type of care you’ve never had before, such as drug and alcohol treatment. Northbound is committed to helping our clients navigate their insurance policies and find affordable solutions to treatment so that they can get their lives back on track.

Policy Coverage for Substance Abuse with First Health

As we mentioned, the level of coverage offered by your insurance company depends on your current policy. Having said that, there is a good chance your First Health plan will cover at least a portion of the costs for your time spent at a treatment center — whether it’s detox, residential rehab, or an outpatient treatment.

This usually includes hospitalization relating to substance abuse, clinical assessments, diagnoses, drug tests, and any other lab work you may need as part of your treatment. Additionally, rehabilitation services will likely include coverage for a co-occurring mental health disorder, medication-assisted treatment, family support therapy, and recovery maintenance, such as continuing care programs or follow-up counseling.

How Policies Work For Treatment Centers

First Health is a PPO (preferred provider organization), which means policyholders can go to any in-network healthcare provider without a referral from their primary care physician. The insurance company covers treatment for substance abuse, which includes treatment centers. Northbound Treatment is an in-network provider for First Health. Just keep in mind that the level of coverage will depend on your specific policy, what type of treatment you get, and the extent of your treatment. For example, your plans might cover a certain number of days at inpatient rehab or a certain number of outpatient sessions each year.

However, if your plan only covers a specified length of stay, it doesn’t mean you can’t continue going to rehab if you need more treatment. Regardless of what your insurance plan covers, Northbound strongly recommends you opt for a treatment program that best suits your needs, and we can help you find a payment solution that works for you.

Does It Need to Be In-Network?

While First Health Network does cover treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, precisely how much they’ll cover depends on your policy, as well as whether the provider (or treatment center) is in-network. Northbound Treatment is an in-network provider for First Health.

First Health makes it easy for policyholders to find care within their network of preferred providers, but what if you’d like to get treatment from a facility that’s outside the network? First Health’s Strategic Solutions Program ensures that policyholders can get at least some form of coverage outside the PPO network by categorizing services and providers as “primary network,” “secondary network,” or “non-network negotiation.” You’ll get the most coverage for anything labeled as “primary network,” but you still have the option to seek care elsewhere.

About First Health Coverage for Detoxification

For many, detox is a medically necessary first step to recovery. We strongly advise clients who need to detox to do so safely under the clinical supervision of a treatment center. Although the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 makes coverage for substance abuse and mental health a federal law, not all PPOs cover detox. If your First Health PPO insurance does cover detox, you might have to pay a deductible first, meaning your policy will only cover its portion after you pay for a certain amount in out-of-pocket costs. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance company to see if you’ve already met your deductible or how close you might be to reaching it.

First Health Covers Inpatient Insurance

Inpatient treatment is an intensive and structured form of therapy for addiction, including detox and residential rehabilitation. For many addicts, the daily psychotherapy, group sessions, clinical support, and overall environment of inpatient treatment is crucial for their recovery. Most First Health Network health insurance plans cover inpatient programs, and you’ll get the best coverage if you go to an in-network treatment center.

In many instances, First Health will consider a doctor’s recommendation when determining how many days of inpatient treatment it will cover for a particular policyholder. To start that process, you would undergo “pre-admission,” which means a physician would evaluate your condition and recommend a length of stay for rehabilitation.

First Health Coverage for Mental Health Treatment

Millions of people struggle with mental illness, and it’s especially common among addicts. In some cases, people turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with a mental health condition, and other times, psychological issues are a result of substance abuse. As mentioned above, insurance companies can’t discriminate on which types of diseases they cover, which essentially means they’re federally required to offer mental health coverage.

First Health Network covers both substance abuse and mental health treatment, including psychotherapy, counseling, group therapy, and family therapy. Many clients at Northbound Treatment have a dual diagnosis (or co-occurring disorders), meaning they suffer from both addiction and some form of psychological distress. Our dual diagnosis treatment program is designed to help clients overcome addiction while simultaneously addressing their anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health condition.
