Supporting Recovery Through Sober Living Homes

Recovery from addiction is an ongoing process. While some clients are ready to head back home following discharge from residential treatment and continue with support groups and aftercare services, other clients prefer more support. Sober living homes can provide individuals with a safe, substance-free environment where they can put into practice what they learned in treatment, but still have on-site access to support staff to help them work through challenges they may face. They are still building their independence but have fewer distractions and temptations than they might encounter living at home.

It is important when selecting a sober living home to do your research and verify that it is a quality program. Not all sober living homes offer the same level of service or staff that has been trained. Recent California legislation is pushing to create quality standards and uniform requirements when it comes to these facilities. AB 2255 would offer certification for approved facilities and hold them to high standards to ensure residents are living in an effective drug and alcohol-free environment.

Northbound thoroughly vets all sober living homes prior to referring our clients to them. We develop close-knit partnerships with providers to ensure that our clients are in a safe environment and have access to the resources and support they need to continue moving forward in their recovery. When used effectively, sober living homes can be a beneficial stepping stone in the recovery process and allow clients to feel more confident as they rebuild their future.

In a sober living home, individuals become part of the local community and build positive relationships. They learn how to cope with the ups and downs of everyday life in a less structured setting than in a rehab facility. Northbound can help you to find a quality sober living home to support your ongoing recovery.

Let us know how living in a sober living home has supported your recovery efforts, and give us a call to learn more about finding a quality facility or to see if it would be a good fit for you!
