Alcohol Rehab in Orange County

In the U.S., nearly 90,000 deaths each year involve the misuse of alcohol, and Orange County is no exception[1]. The Southern California region has seen a substantial increase in overdose deaths relating to alcohol and drug use in the past two decades. Deaths caused by alcohol overdose have risen by over 40%, and around half of patient hospitalizations were associated with substance abuse or dependence[1].

Though alcohol use disorder (alcoholism) and binge drinking are prevalent health problems affecting individuals of every age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, the reality is that many don’t seek counseling or care at a rehabilitation center. Orange County is home to Northbound Treatment’s accredited treatment facilities, and we welcome people from all walks of life. Read on for details about our successful programs and what to expect from treatment.

Orange County Alcohol Treatment from Northbound

If you or a loved one are looking for top-tier rehab services in Southern California, we encourage you to consider our Orange County alcohol treatment center. We provide a variety of fully integrated programs for those struggling with alcohol addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders

Alcoholism occurs when someone has trouble controlling their drinking habits and struggles with a chronic preoccupation with alcohol. The progressive disease affects virtually every facet of a person’s life, including their mental and physical well-being, relationships, family, job, and community. Throughout the course of treatment for alcohol addiction, our skilled clinicians work with patients in individual and group settings to address all aspects of alcoholism and the challenges impacting recovery.

Alcohol Rehab Orange County, CA: What to Expect

Problematic drinking includes behaviors that put your (or your loved ones’) health and safety at risk, impact your ability to perform at your job, or interfere with your capacity to tend to your responsibilities. Binge drinking is a form of problematic alcohol use, in which five or more drinks are consumed within two hours. While it doesn’t always lead to alcoholism, people who binge drink are at a higher risk of developing the disease.

Continuing to drink alcohol despite the problems it causes is one of the top signs of alcohol use disorder (AUD)[2]. Coming to terms with substance abuse is never easy, but it’s usually a crucial preliminary step of recovery.

At Northbound, we believe in the value of a full continuum of care, which includes alcohol detox, residential rehab, outpatient treatment, and aftercare services. While the steps of recovery are generally the same, clients are treated with a personalized plan that suits their unique needs.

Alcohol Detox

At Northbound Treatment, we offer 180 Detox, a medically supervised detoxification program at our facility in Orange County. During this phase of medical detox, the body rids itself of chemicals and toxins, which typically coincides with a number of withdrawal symptoms. Though it varies from person to person, withdrawal symptoms often include excessive sweating, tremors, anxiety, depression, paranoia, mood swings, insomnia, fever, nausea, vomiting, other flu-like symptoms, and strong alcohol cravings.

Many suffering from alcohol abuse disorder are tempted to try to detox at home. However, the withdrawal symptoms can be incredibly challenging and overwhelming, both physically and mentally — not to mention unsafe for you and those around you.

At our alcohol detox center, you’ll be able to get clean in a safe, comfortable, and clinically supervised environment, and we can help minimize some of the most uncomfortable aspects of withdrawal. If at any point, your symptoms become so severe that your health is at risk, Northbound Treatment’s medical team will step in. While each client’s experience is different, the detox process takes about a week on average.

Residential Rehab

Once medical detox is complete, most clients transition to a residential treatment center (RTC). Sometimes referred to as inpatient treatment, residential rehab is the phase in which you’ll live at a treatment facility for at least 28 days while receiving around-the-clock care and participating in a range of therapeutic activities.

In a safe, supportive, and encouraging setting, clients participate in one-on-one counseling and group therapy sessions. Also, many receive a dual diagnosis, meaning they suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition in addition to alcoholism. Some of the most common co-occurring mental health disorders are depression, anxiety, OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and codependency. Dual diagnosis treatment addresses substance abuse and mental illness simultaneously.

Residential rehab is often a critical stepping stone to long-term recovery and a driving factor for Northbound Treatment’s high success rate. The experience is designed to help you get to the root of your alcohol abuse, find yourself, and prepare you for the next stage of sobriety.

Outpatient Treatment

After completing inpatient rehab, the next step is outpatient treatment, which continues recovery while you live at home. In other words, you’ll still attend therapy sessions at our facilities as you adjust to living independently without around-the-clock care.

Northbound Treatment offers both IOP (intensive outpatient) treatment and OP (outpatient) treatment programs that require clients participation for anywhere from three to 12 hours a week. With the flexibility of attending daytime or evening sessions, you can fit treatment into your daily schedule. Choose from a variety of Northbound’s Signature Services, such as our Collegebound® and Careerbound® programs.

Additionally, Northbound Treatment has a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which is tailored to those who need more medical care than what’s typically offered from OP treatment. We’re also proud to provide HomeBound, a telehealth alcohol rehab program catered to those who have a difficult time attending in-person sessions at a facility.

Aftercare Services

Overcoming alcohol use disorder doesn’t end after completing an inpatient or outpatient treatment program. It’s a lifelong journey full of triumphs, challenges, and setbacks — which is where Northbound’s addiction support services come in.

Though we’re proud to say our success rates for addiction treatment are high, we know that the risk of relapse is always there. With our aftercare support program, you’ll develop relapse prevention strategies while continuing to assess your progress. We’ll work with you on goal setting and follow-ups and provide online case management, recovery coaching, therapy, and ongoing alcohol testing.

AA Meetings in Orange County

As part of our commitment to helping individuals overcome alcoholism through specialized addiction treatment, Northbound supports clients participating in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The 12-Step program can be extremely valuable for people in recovery. It was developed to hold alcoholics accountable for their disease while helping them mend the damages associated with their drinking and take a proactive approach to overcoming addiction.

For many struggling with AUD, attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings is a vital part of rehab, particularly during and after outpatient treatment. There are group meetings every morning, day, and night at various locations in virtually every city in the U.S., including those in Orange County. Recently, AA has implemented virtual gatherings, meaning you can meet through video conferencing. Check the Orange County AA website to find locations and meeting times near you.
