Outpatient Rehab in Orange County

Every month, almost 30 million people in the United States use illegal drugs or misuse prescription medications, and 70 million participate in binge drinking at least once[1]. Annually, drug overdoses account for nearly 50,000 deaths in the U.S., and alcohol misuse contributes to roughly 88,000 fatalities[1].

On par with nationwide trends, the Orange County region of California has seen a substantial uptick in overdose deaths relating to drugs and alcohol in the past decade, about half of which were accidental overdoses of prescription drugs[1]. Close to 300 million opioid prescriptions are written each year in the U.S., and almost half of overdose deaths in California involve opioids[2].

For many struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, the most effective route to recovery is a treatment program that incorporates a full continuum of medical detox, inpatient, and outpatient care. At Northbound Treatment, clients begin with detox, followed by inpatient treatment, and then outpatient alcohol or drug rehab in OC. Orange County is known for its stunning landscapes and oceanic views, and Northbound is pleased to call it home for our fully integrated treatment facilities. Here’s a breakdown of how outpatient treatment works and what you can expect from our programs.

Northbound Treatment: Outpatient Rehab Orange County

Inpatient (residential) rehab is the treatment phase when patients live on the property of a facility for at least 28 days. Conversely, with outpatient treatment, you’ll receive care and participate in various activities while living at home[3]. As you may expect, this type of treatment is less structured than a residential rehab program, but it’s still a crucial component of addiction recovery.

Here at Northbound Treatment, we offer outpatient rehab in Orange County, serving areas across the county including Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Garden Grove, Irvine, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa. Depending on the program, outpatient plans require anywhere from three to 12 participation hours a week and last between three to 12 months depending on the severity of the substance addiction.

Types of Outpatient Rehab We Offer In Orange County

The goal of our outpatient treatment services is to help clients stay sober while living at home and adjusting to the realities of day-to-day life. During this phase, you’ll get ongoing encouragement, guidance, and accountability from your care team and community of sober peers. At Northbound, we offer a few types of outpatient care. This includes intensive outpatient, outpatient, and telehealth services.

Intensive Outpatient Program Orange County

Intensive outpatient (IOP) is the stage immediately after residential treatment. At Northbound Treatment’s intensive outpatient program in Orange County, clients engage in an average of six to 12 hours of treatment a week.

While plans vary, IOP rehab usually involves a combination of individual therapy sessions, group therapy, 12-Step engagement, recreational activities, psychoeducation, drug or alcohol testing, experiential therapies, psychiatric care, and individual case management. Just like in our residential treatment centers, we provide dual diagnosis treatment as part of our outpatient services. The approach treats any co-occurring mental health conditions together with drug or alcohol addiction.

In some instances of mild substance abuse, clients may be able to begin IOP treatment without attending residential rehab first. In other cases, an outpatient program can help individuals refocus on recovery after relapsing back to a chemical dependency.

Outpatient Rehab in Orange County

The next tier down from intensive outpatient treatment is outpatient (OP) treatment. Generally, patients begin visiting our OP rehab facilities after completing an IOP program. During this stage, individuals spend an average of three to six hours a week on solidifying the skills they’ve developed in the initial phases of substance abuse treatment.

With the support of your clinical care team and sober peers, you’ll have the resources you need to adjust back to an independent lifestyle. Our OP programs offer flexible scheduling, and all care plans are developed on an individual basis to cater to the real-life needs of our patients. As you navigate the ups and downs of life at home, every obstacle, milestone, and victory will be met with compassion and accountability.

Telehealth Outpatient Treatment

Addiction doesn’t discriminate — it can affect anyone at any time, regardless of age, ethnicity, income, and gender. The team at Northbound Treatment realizes that each client’s journey to recovery is unique. As part of our mission to make addiction treatment accessible to people from all walks of life, we’re proud to offer comprehensive telehealth services.

Through video conferencing and online case management, our HomeBound program allows clients to engage in treatment from the comfort of their own homes. Telemedicine services from Northbound provide care at the level of our IOP and OP programs with dual diagnosis treatment to address mental health issues if needed.

Our HomeBound program has been operating since January 2016, and our experienced facilitators are well versed in providing top-tier virtual care. Each appointment effectively recreates every facet of in-person treatment, and telehealth visits are tailored to the real-life demands of participants. This helps clients develop the strategies and coping mechanisms they need to live a confident, sober lifestyle not just now but also years down the road.
