Dual Diagnosis: Tackling Recovery from Both Sides

When it comes to living an overall healthy lifestyle, there are many factors that come into play including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. If you’re struggling in any one of these areas, it can throw things off kilter. The same applies to recovery. Northbound has created a full continuum of care that addresses all of these areas to help clients be as successful as possible.

It is not uncommon for individuals entering addiction treatment to be facing both addiction and mental health issues. These two conditions can be closely intertwined. Mental health plays a strong role in addiction risk. Some people turn to drugs or alcohol as a way of coping with the symptoms of mental illness. However, this is only a temporary fix and does not address the underlying problem. The mental illness is still there untreated or not well managed. Substance use can also increase feelings of anxiety and depression, taking a toll on overall mental health.

Effective treatment requires focusing on these co-occurring disorders and treating them simultaneously. Clients should understand the role that their mental health plays in their addiction as well as their approach to recovery. When mental illness is not well managed – or goes untreated – it makes achieving long-term recovery much more difficult.

Northbound incorporates mental health treatment throughout all levels of addiction treatment but also has a specialized dual diagnosis program. This provides clients with the customized treatment they need to address their unique addiction and mental health challenges. All clients are empowered with strategies to manage stress, promote positive thinking, build support systems, and make healthier decisions as they rebuild their lives in recovery. Clients know that they are not alone and have necessary support to maximize their opportunities and success as they reintegrate into society. Northbound tackles multiple facets of recovery through evidence-based approaches to treatment and comprehensive care.

Make sure that your mental health is taken seriously by seeking treatment for co-occurring disorders at Northbound.
