Women’s Residential Treatment

Addiction is a chronic disease that can affect both women and men. It has impacted can affect individuals with a variety of cultural backgrounds and living statuses. Part of what makes a woman struggling with addiction different than men is the differences found within their biology. Additionally, there are different social pressures and expectations for women.

Because of these differences, professionals felt as though they might benefit from a specialized treatment approach that did not include men. Some programs may be in a women’s-only facility, while other programs offer separate groups for women in a co-ed treatment facility.

Addiction treatment for women can provide a safe space to discuss concerns that may not come up in groups with male members. Additionally, group discussions can revolve around issues that only women experience.

If you find yourself looking for a Southern California women’s rehab, we recommend considering Northbound Treatment. Northbound is an inclusive addiction treatment provider that offers a range of treatment programs, including detoxification, inpatient residential rehab programs, a partial hospitalization program, an intensive outpatient program, and a family therapy program. To learn more about the Southern California rehab services available, we invite you to call (866) 568-2722 today.

Women and Addiction

Research has shown that women are unfortunately less likely to seek addiction treatment than men. Once women do make the brave choice to seek treatment, their chances at a successful experience are increased if they can benefit from a supportive, gender-specific treatment experience.

To best serve our female population, Northbound offers gender-responsive treatment for women through our Women’s Addiction Treatment Center and Women’s LINKS (similar to our Residential Care Services, but with a Christian-based approach) programs. The right environment is key.

In a nurturing, safe environment, women create strong, loving bonds as they support one another on the recovery journey. The program is highly flexible and adaptable while still maintaining the structure and support necessary to facilitate long-term recovery. We are located in the coastal region of Newport Beach, California, a breathtaking area that provides an inspiring atmosphere to help our clients focus on healing, with world-class opportunities for healthy activities and sobriety fellowships.

Are Women Impacted Differently by Drugs?

There are several differences in the way that drugs impact women. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIH) reported that a woman’s hormones can make them more sensitive to the effects of drugs and that a woman’s brain responds differently to drugs when compared to a man’s brain.

There are differences in the reasons that contribute to a woman’s use of drugs as well. For example, according to the NIH, women have reported using it to help control their weight, reduce tiredness, cope with physical pain, and help cope with mental health concerns.

While having a drug addiction can harm a woman’s health, this is especially true for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding. Women who use while they are pregnant are exposing their children to substances before they are born, which can lead to withdrawal symptoms when the baby is born. Women who are using and breastfeeding are exposing their babies to traces of drugs in their breast milk. Unfortunately, the stigma associated with women who are using while pregnant can act as a barrier to treatment because the woman can fear feeling judged and ashamed.

Women may have a more challenging time in their recovery due to the differences in their hormones, disturbances in their menstrual cycle, fertility concerns, and menopause. These changes can be unexpected and unpredictable, which makes comping with them feel overwhelming.

Northbound Treatment is a women’s rehab in Southern California that can provide women with a variety of treatment options ranging from detoxification to intensive outpatient programming. How Long is Successful Residential Treatment?

There is no one typical length of stay. However, we have found that many people find three months of Residential Treatment an ideal amount of time to launch a successful life of sobriety.

Trauma-Centered Care

Trauma is an underlying issue in many instances of addiction. We might term this dual-diagnosis and recommend a dual-diagnosis treatment program. It is natural and human for us to underestimate the lasting and severe impact that events from our past have had on our present life; this is a coping mechanism that we do to protect ourselves. However, without healing the underlying causes of addiction, the chances of sustainable recovery are drastically reduced. Northbound Treatment’s trauma program provides individual trauma therapies including EMDR, psychoeducation, symptom management, trauma-focused process groups, and experiential opportunities for shared processing. Once we are able to understand our trauma, the healing process can begin, and starts a path towards deep personal growth. Within our Northbound Trauma Program, the result is often an emerging recovery identity that grounds an individual in recovery with a newfound foundation on what was previously shaky ground.

Northbound’s Women’s Drug Rehab in Southern California

When you are ready to begin looking for a women’s addiction rehab, there are two main routes you can take. The first would be to meet with your primary care physician, or another mental health professional, and talk about your concerns. After they learn more about what you’re going through, they will be able to provide you with a treatment recommendation. They will discuss with you the level of care that they feel would be the best.

Your second option would be to contact your insurance provider and ask them for an in-network referral. A benefit of going this route is that you would be able to get a better understanding of how your insurance coverage would impact your financial responsibility for rehab.

Northbound Treatment is a treatment provider, with detox, inpatient, and intensive outpatient options in Southern California. We can provide specialized women’s treatment at a variety of treatment programs.

We can provide women with detoxification, inpatient addiction rehab treatment, partial hospitalization programming, intensive outpatient programming, and family therapy programming. You would be eligible to receive continuous care with a seamless transition as you progress through your recovery.
