Conditions Treated
Northbound provides residential treatment for alcohol and other substance use disorders based on individual clinical appropriateness. Treatment may address alcohol, opioid, stimulant, benzodiazepine, prescription drug, or polysubstance use.
For clients experiencing co-occurring depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, or other mental health symptoms, care is coordinated through an integrated dual-diagnosis treatment plan. Every admission and treatment recommendation is based on an individual assessment, and not every medical or psychiatric condition can be safely treated at every level of care.

From day one, your clinical team creates a personalized path forward — integrating therapy, community, and recovery-skill development into each week of care based on clinical need.
Upon admission, you are evaluated by a multidisciplinary team — including medical and clinical staff — to build a treatment plan tailored to your history, goals, and co-occurring conditions. You are an active participant in this process from the start.
Structured daily schedules may include individual therapy, group counseling, psychoeducation, trauma-focused sessions, and specialty programming such as DBT, EMDR, music therapy, and art therapy when clinically appropriate. Evidence-based modalities are combined with experiential approaches.

Family members may participate in Northbound’s Family Program — reconnecting, repairing relationships affected by addiction, and learning about the disease of addiction. Family involvement is offered when clinically appropriate.
As clients progress, Northbound’s InVivo® model introduces graduated real-world engagement — phones, social interaction, and independent activities. The model is designed to help clients navigate challenges with coping skills and clinician support before returning to full independence.
Residential treatment is one chapter in a continuum of care. Your clinical team coordinates a transition to partial hospitalization or another clinically appropriate step-down level, helping maintain momentum, accountability, and community support as independence increases.
Each schedule is individualized, but residential days follow a consistent rhythm that reduces unstructured time and helps clients practice recovery skills. A typical weekday may include:

Length of Stay
Most Northbound clients complete residential treatment in 30 to 90 days. The length is set clinically — using ASAM level-of-care criteria at admission and reassessed throughout treatment — not by a fixed package. Insurance authorization is typically issued in increments and extended as medical necessity is documented.
As a general pattern: shorter stays fit clients with strong home stability who are stepping down quickly to PHP; longer stays fit complex withdrawal histories, repeated prior treatment episodes, co-occurring mental health conditions, or unstable recovery environments. Longer is not automatically better — the step-down plan matters as much as the residential weeks themselves.
