Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Programs for Seattle WA

Northbound welcomes Seattle and Washington State residents seeking addictions treatment to participate in our two fully licensed medical detox and residential treatment centers in sunny Orange County, California in Newport Beach and Garden Grove.

Clients from the Seattle area may find this helpful.

With over 30 years experience, Northbound’s residential withdrawal management (detox) and treatment centers provide a safe, supervised environment where clients can achieve abstinence, overcome the symptoms of withdrawal, and begin the healing process.

We provide a variety of treatment options, including inpatient residential rehab programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and family therapy programs.

The Drug Crisis in Seattle and Washington State

This area is facing a serious drug use crisis, driven by the fentanyl epidemic, which has dramatically increased overdose deaths. Polydrug use, primarily with methamphetamine and alcohol also remain significant contributors to substance use disorders and fatalities.

In 2022, 2,706 Washington residents died from a drug overdose, a rate of 32.6 deaths per 100,000 people, according to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). This is more than double the rate from a decade ago.

The crisis is most visible in the Seattle area, particularly in open-air drug markets. In 2023, there were 1,312 suspected and confirmed overdose deaths in King County. This is a 16% increase from the 1,133 deaths recorded in 2022 and more than double the number from 2019.

The need for effective treatment from proven treatment centers has never been higher.

Detox, Residential and IOP Programs

Northbound offers several levels of care for Seattle and Washington State residents, as follows:

Withdrawal Management (Detox) Programs

Our alcohol and drug detox programs include:

Residential Alcohol and Drug Treatment

Our programs are highly flexible and adaptable while still maintaining the structure and support necessary to facilitate long-term recovery. We have highly experienced, licensed therapists who understand the process of recovery and provide appropriate support throughout. Programs include:

Intensive Outpatient Program

IOP helps people address addiction and mental illness. IOP provides an intensive level of treatment, while patients live at home. This allows you to continue living your day-to-day life.

While some may not be able to hold themselves accountable and need a more structured routine, such as residential care or PHP, IOP equips people with the tools and support they need to be able to transition to a more independent level of care.  We provide the following:

Dual Diagnosis and Mental Health Services

Dual diagnosis is when someone has both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. It’s also called co-occurring diagnosis. This is very common. As part of our treatment programs we offer a range of therapy approaches that address dual diagnosis, including:

What to Expect During Rehab

Our programs consist of a full day of individual and group therapy as well as nutritious meals. In addition to our treatment program therapies we also offer the following amenities to restore mind and body:

  • Holistic healing
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Fitness programs
  • Excursions to the beach

Interacting with the outside world is more than a simple distraction, it can be a truly fun experience. The beach is often a regular part of our day, with our surf enthusiasts catching waves two times a week. We take trips to Sequoia National Park, visit the grocery store, and get together for barbecue.

Services We Provide in Seattle WA

Northbound’s Seattle services center is located in the Lower Queen Anne (now called Uptown) neighborhood, a vibrant area that provides an inspiring atmosphere to focus on individual and family assessment, in preparation to enter a recovery program. As well, we offer an alternative sentencing service to provide alternatives to jail for those who have offended.

We’re conveniently close to the Space Needle and right on Puget Sound. The neighborhood’s historic houses and small boutique stores lend a quaint vibe to the area.

Potential Client Assessments

We do these assessments to help decide if a potential client seeking to enroll in our detox (withdrawal management) and addictions rehabilitation program is a good fit for the services Northbound offers. It is usually done by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent professional, together with the potential client.

Typically, this is a multi-stage process designed to ensure a client’s needs match the appropriate level of care. It begins with an initial pre-screen to verify insurance, identify the primary substance, and assess any immediate risks like suicidality or need for medical withdrawal management.

The core component is a comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluation conducted by a clinician. This reviews the client’s full substance use history, past treatment attempts, physical health, and mental health status to identify any co-occurring disorders. It also explores their social, family, and living environment.

This information is analyzed against the standardized ASAM (American Society of Addiction Management) Criteria, which assesses six dimensions of need—from withdrawal risk to recovery environment—to objectively recommend the correct treatment intensity, such as residential or outpatient care.

The assessment concludes by creating a preliminary treatment plan, ensuring a smooth admission process, and laying the groundwork for personalized, effective recovery from the first day.

Family Assessments

We conduct family assessments for those considering entering an addictions recovery program. This process evaluates the family system’s dynamics, structure, and functioning as they relate to the client’s addiction. It aims to understand how the family has been impacted and how its patterns may contribute to or support the substance use.

The process involves identifying roles members play, and assessing communication styles, boundaries, and levels of conflict and support. It also screens for codependency, trauma, and any history of addiction or mental health issues within the family itself.

The goal is to uncover strengths and stressors within the family unit. This information is important for developing a family-inclusive treatment plan, which may involve therapy, education on addiction, and establishing new, healthy communication strategies to support both the client’s recovery and the family’s own healing process.
