Why Newport Beach is Ideal for Recovery
Newport Beach offers some of the most stunning landscapes in all of California. Situated between San Diego to the south and Los Angeles to the north, Orange County has a casually sophisticated vibe that makes it uniquely its own.
Reminiscent of the Mediterranean, with 42 miles of pristine beaches, this area of Southern California is rich in natural beauty and is bursting with personality and charm.
Patients participating in our drug and alcohol treatment programs are not only surrounded by encouraging and supportive staff members, but also go through the recovery process in one of the most beautiful locations in all of California.
Northbound’s incredible success rates are due, in part, to our inVivoⓇ drug rehab program model, which empowers participants to interact with the outside world while in a supportive and safe clinical setting. Our philosophy, and ultimately our success rates, prioritize the community in every aspect of treatment.
Interacting with the outside world is more than a simple distraction, it can be a truly fun experience. The beach is often a regular part of our day, with our surf enthusiasts catching waves two times a week. We take trips to Sequoia National Park, visit the grocery store, and get together for barbecues.

Drug and Alcohol Detox Program
At Northbound Treatment Services we offer medically-supervised detoxification services to help you end your physical dependence on drugs or alcohol and begin your journey to addiction recovery..
Our team at Northbound Treatment Services is aware of the challenges of withdrawal. Depending on the substance and the nature of the addiction, this may last 7 to 10 days. We strive to make this first step of recovery as comfortable and as safe as possible.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program
Many individuals who suffer from substance use disorders (SUDs) also suffer from the effects of mental health disorders. These disorders may include the following:
According to the California Health Care Almanac, 34.4% of the adults who received services for mental health had a mental illness and a substance use disorder.
Many people who are living with co-occurring disorders struggle to find the right kind of help. We offer dual diagnosis treatment for those who are living with both substance and mental health disorders. We understand the difficulty of managing symptoms of mental illness while trying to overcome addiction. So, we provide help and hope for those who are working through these challenges.
Residential Treatment
Our residential treatment center is designed for patients with moderate to severe levels of addiction to live in a rehab facility for the entirety of their time in recovery, typically 30-90 days. This provides patients with the chance to focus on their recovery, with limited distractions, in a safe, structured program with routine. Support, guidance, and a high level of care are provided around the clock by medical and therapy professionals. Our residential treatment center in Newport Beach provides the following:
- Individual and group therapy
- Psychiatric care
- 12-step immersion
- Life skills development
- 4-Day intensive family program
- Conflict resolution

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
After completing our residential treatment program, many patients step down to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). This level of care offers on-site counseling, psychoeducation, and support groups.
Patients who attend PHP do not live at the treatment facility. Instead, PHP patients travel to the treatment center on their assigned hours and days. Typically, patients commit to around 4 to 8 hours of therapy each day.
Partial hospitalization programs can be used as a step-down treatment after residency or as the sole program for minor addictions. This is an excellent option for those who aren’t looking to fully commit to an inpatient rehab program. It’s also great for those who may have work, familial obligations, or other responsibilities.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP helps people address addiction and mental illness. IOP provides an intensive level of treatment, while patients live at home. This allows you to continue living your day-to-day life.
While some may not be able to hold themselves accountable and need a more structured routine, such as residential care or PHP, IOP equips people with the tools and support they need to be able to transition to a more independent level of care. We provide the following:
- Individual recovery coaching
- Individual therapy
- Goal setting and follow-up
- Online case management
- On-site and off-site programming
- Alcohol and drug testing

Outpatient Treatment
Outpatient treatment is a program for people with moderate to less severe levels of addiction who don’t need PHP or IOP. People in outpatient programs have typically transitioned from residential treatment, and need to continue their recovery. However, instead of living at the facility, patients will live at home while attending hours of weekly treatment sessions and counseling for the amount of time necessary.
While living independently, support and resources such as coping skills, are taught to help avoid the urge to use and be able to manage their condition as there is no 24/7 supervision. We provide the following:
- Individual and group therapy
- Individual case management
- Therapeutic toxicology services
- Recreational activities
- Day and evening programming
- Vocational and academic support

Support Groups
Support groups are an integral component of drug and alcohol treatment and care at our Newport Beach rehabilitation facility. The recovery journey can be emotional, so it’s essential to share your feelings, not only with loved ones or counselors, but also with peers who are in recovery and understand what you’re going through.
Support groups allow you and your loved ones to listen and be listened to. Support groups usually meet at least once a week so that members can support one another through recovery. Different support groups have varying approaches. We can guide you in the right direction.
Aftercare Support
The road to recovery is long, and it doesn’t end after inpatient or outpatient treatment. Addiction support services are designed to help individuals adjust to life outside of rehab, prevent relapse, and continue to evaluate their progress.
Your Northbound care team assesses your needs as a patient and works with you to develop a flexible aftercare plan. While plans vary, they often include individual coaching and therapy, goal setting and follow-ups, drug testing, and online case management to assess your sober living progress.
Recovery Meetings in Newport Beach
Recovery meetings are a great supplement to a drug and alcohol treatment program. In Newport Beach, support groups are one of the many addiction treatment resources, and they can be one of the most beneficial resources to utilize during recovery. Local groups include:
- Alcoholics Anonymous
- Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
- Al-Anon and Nar-Anon
- SMART Recovery

Steps for Admission
The admissions process at Northbound Treatment Services is a multi-step process. Below are the steps of admissions so you have a better understanding of what to expect along the way.
Get in Touch with Northbound
Give us a call once you’ve made the decision to get treatment. An admissions team member will conduct a pre-admission assessment with you. During this assessment, they’ll be able to get to know you a bit better.
In doing so, they’ll learn more about your history of substance use and your specific needs. If you have co-occurring disorders that need to be addressed, you can discuss them at this time. You also may have certain limitations that need special attention. During the pre-admission assessment, our team members create an action plan to meet your needs.
Verify Your Insurance
For those patients with insurance, your insurance will need to be verified. This includes getting your policy information and doing a preliminary check. We’ll review your insurance plan to learn more about your coverage, and then answer any questions you may have.
Once your insurance coverage is confirmed, we can take a closer look at your finances and put together a custom plan that will help to both meet your recovery needs and your budget.
Coordinating Your Travel
We understand that getting to our treatment center may not be easy. Because of this, we help patients make travel arrangements to get to our Northbound Treatment Services facility. Over half of the patients at our treatment center come from different states. This is because of the high level of expertise our team has to offer in many forms of addiction.
Speak with a team member to learn more about the easiest way to get to our treatment center from where you are currently located.
Arriving at Our Newport Beach Facility
The first thing you’ll do when arriving at Northbound is speak with a Care Coordinator. They help you with your full evaluation process and will be available to help as you meet with specialists, clinicians, and doctors.
Our team will take a look at your medical history, perform an initial health assessment, and then put together a custom plan to meet your needs.
Begin Your Recovery Journey
You’ll meet with our treatment specialists once your plan has been put in place. They will be able to recommend a range of relaxing activities that will help you along your journey. Early recovery can be a stressful time, and the recreational activities that we provide are designed to help you relax. We have excellent yoga classes!
We’ll also provide you with the tools you need to succeed and recover in a safe and healthy environment.
