What to Do in San Diego?

Home > What to Do in San Diego?

One of the major things people worry about when getting and staying sober is having fun and finding a community without the use of drugs or alcohol. This is an improtant aspect to continue when entering rehab for drug or alcohol addiction – not only how to get sober, but how to stay sober after treatment.

Alcohol can be particularly problematic, as it is built into a lot of activities. From bars and clubs to parties with friends, it seems like alcohol is everywhere. Drinking becomes just another part of having fun and being social. Once patients enter recovery, some aren’t sure what they can do to have fun—and if they’ll ever be able to really have fun again.

At Northbound Treatment – we are here to show you that sobriety doesn’t have to be boring! Through tools and practice, sobriety can become a natural, positive and fun part of day to day life.

 Sober Activities in San Diego

San Diego is a cultural hub, with plenty of fun activities that you can do without the use of drugs or alcohol. There is also a lot of natural beauty to enjoy, and lots of fun outdoor activities. Below are a few of our favorite San Diego based sober activities:

 Hiking

San Diego has beautiful hiking locations. Whether it is hiking Potato Chip Rock, Cowles Mountain, Iron Mountain, or any of the other stunning locations in San Diego, you’ll find that there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you. Hiking is an excellent way to get exercise, practice mindfulness, and de-stress.

 Surfing

San Diego has some of the best surf spots in the world. If you love the water and want to conquer the waves, you’ll find that there are tons of opportunities to hit the waves and surf. If you don’t know how to surf, you’ll be happy to find that there are tons of great surf schools that have quality instructors that can show you how to ride the waves.

Yoga

Yoga is a super calming form of both exercise and meditation that doesn’t involve the use of alcohol or drugs. Through yoga, you can stretch, meditate, and practice being present in challenging or uncomfortable feelings. There are plenty of yoga classes in San Diego, and it’s also something you can do at home with friends or alone.

 Museums

San Diego is home to a variety of amazing museums. Whether it’s the Maritime Museum, Air and Space Museum, or one of the other amazing museums in the city, you’ll find that there are a lot of opportunities for both fun and learning.

Movies

Whether you want to check out the next big blockbuster or see a great indie film, there are plenty of movie theaters in the San Diego area.

 Restaurants

San Diego is home to a diverse array of different cuisines. No matter what type of food you are in the mood for, there is a great restaurant for you to check out. If you are concerned about being in a restaurant that serves alcohol, consider taking someone else in recovery with more time than you to keep you company and keep you accountable.

 Go to the Beach

The coastline in and around San Diego has more than 70 miles of beaches! The beach is a nice place to go for a swim, get a great tan, play volleyball, surf, and just relax for a little while with friends. You can pack a cooler with your favorite non-alcoholic beverages and soak up the sun.
