Humans are competitive by nature. People like to see how they measure up to others. While a little bit of competition can be motivational, too much can be detrimental. Addiction recovery is an area where comparison and competition do not work well. Every client is different. Everyone has their own stories and experiences.
One thing to remember about addiction recovery is that everyone progresses at their own pace. At Northbound, clients enter at all stages of treatment and recovery. Some may be ready to move to another step more quickly or slowly than others may, and that is okay. What is important is that each client is doing what is right for them and for their well-being.
Not everyone responds to treatment methods in the same way either. While one person may connect strongly to one approach, it might not be as effective for someone else. That is why Northbound offers a wide range of services and evidence-based treatment approaches. Treatment plans are tailored to each client’s individual needs and progress.
Focusing too much on comparing your progress to someone else’s can make you feel discouraged or as though your own treatment is not working as well as it should. You may develop a poor attitude and become less focused on your own progress. On the other hand, comparison can also leave you feeling overly confident and you may downplay the severity of your situation or become complacent. It could go either way.
Northbound empowers clients to be active participants in their treatment planning and recovery. The only person they are in competition with is themselves to continue building a lifestyle that supports recovery and accomplishing the goals they set. Addiction recovery is a very personal journey. Feel more confident in yourself and your abilities at Northbound as we create a plan tailored to your needs.
Make your recovery a priority at Northbound and contact us to find out how we can help you along each step of the way.
