Northbound Treatment Services regards Edward Kaufman, M.D., as the anchor at the center of our clinical team.
When he assumed the role as Northbound’s Medical Director in February 2012, Dr. Kaufman instantly personified our emergence as a premier behavioral healthcare provider – his medical director position was created specifically in response to the growth and expansion our programs were experiencing and the addition of our sub-acute residential detoxification services. Like the many milestones that have forged our strategic vision into a reality, the welcoming of Dr. Kaufman further entrenched Northbound’s singleness of purpose: to become a leader in corporate health through the success of our clients, our people and our culture.
His career spans over 40 years of practice in psychiatry, a rich assembly of extensive work in psychology, family systems and psychopharmacology. It’s professional versatility that ensures Northbound can maintain its responsibility to meet each client’s distinct individual needs through our custom services and programs.
The course of his remarkable medical journey features time as the president of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the editor of the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Dr. Kaufman was well-trained for such critical roles. He studied at Jefferson University, USC and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. He has authored three books, edited five more, and written over 200 articles and book chapters on family therapy, alcoholism, drug addiction, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Kaufman was a full professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine, where he was the Director of Psychiatric Services, Residency and Medical Students Education and private alcohol/drug services.
Northbound is certainly proud to have Dr. Kaufman as Medical Director. His leadership signifies our quest to remain an organization that is always enterprising in our comprehensive treatment for comprehensive alcohol, drug, and dual-diagnosis.
