in King County, Washington

Discover valuable substance abuse treatment resources in King County, Washington.
Begin the road to recovery, today, using our treatment guide and directory.

Just like in the rest of the country, King County is witnessing an opioid epidemic, but it doesn’t stop there. From 2008 to 2017, we saw the number of alcohol and drug deaths increase from 272 to 383.

In 2017, 49 percent of those were connected to opioid use combined with other drugs or alcohol, and 19 percent were contributed to opioids alone. Of the 383 deaths, 25 percent were from methamphetamine or cocaine, and 3 percent were from alcohol.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are plenty of treatment resources in King Country, Washington, for people struggling with addiction from drugs and/or alcohol.

Is that you? Well, bravo for taking the first step: looking for help. It takes courage. And it’s a really smart move because support is here. And you don’t have to feel so isolated anymore.

But where do you get this help, you ask? And how do you know what you need and where to start?

Take a breath and relax. You’re not alone with all these questions, and we’ve put together these quick basics on rehab in King County. Keep reading to get the skinny then jump in.

How Many Treatment Centers Are in Kings County, Washington?

You have access to hundreds of treatment centers, detox centers, sober livings, counselors, and recovery support meetings around King County. As for actual treatment centers in the area, there are around ten if you include Olala.

But you’re wondering, how to find the right place for you to get help.

We like to look at the search for a great rehab like the search for the perfect gym. We suggest picking the gym/rehab that you’ll actually go to.

Location is especially important if you want an outpatient program. Outpatient programs are rehabs where you live off campus but go to the place to do your recovery work. If you do outpatient treatment, you typically live at home or at a sober living. Someplace comfortable and safe to lie your sober head while you work your recovery.

Location isn’t as important if you do a residential treatment. Residential treatment is treatment where you live on campus at the rehab. You’ll just want to pick one that you can get to. But we trust that when you’re ready to make this step, you’ll find a way to get to rehab and get the relief you need.

For residential recovery, go ahead and look a bit outside of Kings County too.

Our Seattle Northbound facility is in Seattle proper. In the Queen Anne neighborhood. It’s local and near some of the great parts of downtown Seattle like the Museum of Pop Culture and the Space Need. You can take a stroll over with the in-treatment group.

Ideally, pick a place that you’ll show up at, and that looks appealing to you. Or as close to appealing as possible.

What Types of Treatment Centers Are in Kings County, Washington?

Everything you need to get over this hump and into recovery is here in Kings County. You can choose from various types of rehabilitation centers. There are those that offer all types of programs and some that give you just one piece of the recovery pie.

Here are some options for you to look at.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab and Treatment Centers

Treatment centers like this and ours in Seattle offer most of your options when it comes to treatment.

One option is a residential treatment program. This is the one where you live on campus for a longer period of time. Often starting with a month. You can go through detox there to get the drug or alcohol out of your system. It gives you the chance to focus on your recovery entirely without any of the triggers of everyday life.

When you leave, they’ll guide you into your new life in recovery with a plan and a way to maintain your sobriety. You’ll also have a group of people that are going through exactly what you are.

Another option is a partial residential treatment program. This is the option that gives you the exact same intense program on campus but you live off campus. Some people choose this if they need to continue working or caring for a while while in recovery, if they can.

A third option is a full outpatient treatment program. Again you live off campus but you might not do the exact treatment plan and intense schedule as the residential program. This one is more for if you’ve already detoxed or are a bit further along. Again, this allows you to continue your life at home and work as you need.

You can also choose a detox program. The sole focus of detox is to get the drugs and alcohol out of your system safely. They offer medical supervision so you can go through withdrawals safely. This can be done in residence or with living off campus

Detox Treatment Centers

This type of center offers solely detox. You don’t live there, and you move onto another program for your ongoing recovery meetings, therapy, and support.

Sober Living Options

These aren’t actual treatment centers but places where recovering alcoholics and drug addicts can live while launching into recovery. Residents usually must actively be in a recovery program and stick to within parameters, like going to a specific number of 12-step meetings a week.

Sober living is also an option for after a residential treatment program if you need more structure than at home and to avoid triggers.

12-Step Meetings

These meetings are offered to support recovering addicts and alcoholics in all stages of recovery, from detox to living happily in ongoing sobriety. These meetings are all over town, including at actual rehab centers, often.

What Programs Are Offered in Kings County, Washington?

You can find all the programs you need for rehab in Kings County, Washington. Let’s take a quick look at what all the programs offer.

Residential Treatment Programs

Live on site. Your goal is to get sober while there and learn tools and have a program to succeed at staying sober when you leave.

Staying sober involves ongoing meetings and support that you learn about and practice while there. You follow a strict schedule.

Medical supervision detox is another option here. You’re supported by a whole personal recovery team to help you with practical life things, including a case manager, counselor, and various therapists.

Some programs, like ours at Northbound, use philosophical models that integrate with your life, like the Northbound In Vivo® Model. It takes your needs into consideration and helps you live in the world by starting to interact with the world already while living at the center.

At Northbound, our residential programs include a men’s program, a women’s program, and a Christian program. Some centers have other focuses, like teens.

Intensive Outpatient Programs

Get the intensive residential program without living on campus. The structure is the same otherwise. Some people live at home or at a nearby sober living.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

With the same goals and strategies, you get sober just like the residential programs but without living on campus. Non-intensive programs are a great option to follow up after a detox or residential program.

You usually attend 12-step meetings with others in the program and are on a set schedule. You typically do service work as part of the program and also do fun activities, so you can build rapport and support with others in the same boat.

Detox Programs

A detox is explicitly focused on helping you get off drugs and alcohol so you can heal and recover. It helps you through substance withdrawals. It safely helps you detox with medical supervision.

Often, detoxing on your own can be very dangerous and life-threatening. In a detox, you’re monitored around the clock.

Support Programs

These are what you do when you have the drugs or alcohol (or both) out of your system.

Sober livings offer a place to live with other sober people while you get used to your new and happier life and how to manage it. You’ll be given a schedule of things to do that you have to stick to, like going to meetings or being a part of a recovery or treatment program.

Therapycounseling, and support group programs are offered by many rehabs too. These help you to live out there in the world. Think of them as a constant lifeline.

You’ll want to stay connected through 12-step meetings and these other ongoing programs. You can find a meeting in Kings County here.
