DRUG & ALCOHOL DETOX
Start the process of feeling better today at our fully licensed detox center. Our team is here to help you in a safe & supervised environment.
On average, a person generally spends seven to ten days in detox. The length of time varies depending on the severity and type of addiction. We have some people that are with us for a mere matter of days as well as those where we successfully uncover an underlying diagnosis, such as anxiety, depression, or other mental health disorder that leads to a more robust treatment plan in order to successfully treat drug and alcohol addiction.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We offer around-the-clock supervision and therapeutic services to make the experience as safe, comfortable, and motivating as possible for a premier alcohol and drug detox residents can rely on.
Northbound’s Orange County detox center located in Southern California is overseen by Medical Director, Dr. Edward Kaufman, former president of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry with over 40 years of experience as an addiction psychiatrist, and Dr. Kristen Schmidt. Our compassionate and trained clinicians and care coordinators are there every minute to alleviate these symptoms. We also employ tried-and-true coping strategies, such as medication-assisted treatments, group and individual counseling, drug and alcohol education, 12-step meetings, and peer support.
Toward the end of detox and rehab, as the body is healing, the mind clears, and the soul becomes stronger. Cravings and withdrawal symptoms typically become less intense, and clients become equipped to face the next phase of their healing journey.
Continue on your path to sobriety with the support of our clinical care team in inpatient treatment. Our programs are designed to help you rediscover yourself.
Northbound’s Residential Center located in the coastal region of Orange County, California, is designed to support participants through the treatment experience. Our success rates at our rehab program are due to our InVivo® model, which empowers everyone to interact with the outside world with all of its challenges, while in a safe and supportive clinical setting.
At Northbound, we have a treatment team that collaborates with individuals who arrive at our Residential Treatment Center ensure that their treatment plan aligns with their unique needs and goals. Everyone in our Residential Treatment Program is assigned a treatment team of up to six people that may include:
ASAM Certified Addiction Psychiatrist
Nationally Certified and Licensed, Masters-Prepared Primary Therapist
Licensed Addictions Counselor

An Academic Advisor (when enrolled in Collegebound®)
Our team is tasked with helping individuals succeed and ultimately thrive within this pivotal juncture on the path to long-term recovery, which is one of the many reasons why Northbound is different from other providers. Northbound’s highly trained therapists incorporate a wide range of evidence-based therapies within a trauma-informed environment in order to address the factors that underlie addiction and mental health disorders.
The key to successful recovery includes continued support through outpatient programs. We’re here to help you in any capacity you need to live free.
Immediately following residential treatment, clients may attend an outpatient program to continue their addiction treatment for a lasting recovery. Outpatient sessions are held three times per week, allowing clients to transition back into a normal routine.
With flexible scheduling tailored to the real-life needs of each participant, Northbound’s Intensive Outpatient Program helps build the strategies necessary to live confidently in recovery. Participants enrolled in this program work with their personal clinical team to develop an individualized schedule that includes:
A minimum of nine service hours per week
Day, evening, and combination scheduling flexibility
Individual, group therapy, and psychoeducation
Individual case management
Recreational and experiential activities
Psychiatric care as needed
Ongoing drug testing
Optional concurrent participation in Northbound signature services, including Collegebound®, Careerbound®, LINKS, our Music Therapy, or Trauma Program
For those who require a gentler transition back into the world after their treatment plan, our Sober Living rehab center homes in Orange County offer another addiction support option. This program helps those who prefer a group setting, and who benefit from the support of their peers. Research has shown that peer mentors and a 24-hour point of contact are also highly valued by clients, even if the latter is rarely used.
