Insurance For Drug and Alcohol Treatment

Cigna is a global health organization, and their coverage helps almost 90 million people! Their mission is to provide affordable care for people’s basic needs, this also includes substance abuse treatment. While Cigna has multiple different kinds of plans one can be on, their services may consist of the following.

  • Drug Rehabilitation
  • Alcohol Rehabilitation
  • Detoxification
  • Counseling for Addiction Treatment

What you are able to be covered by all varies on the plan you have, where you live, etc., We are here to help you navigate all of this. Along with this, we are available around the clock to help you navigate your insurance, get advice, or just to connect. Help is only a phone call away.

Helping You Navigate Your Policy

At Cigna, we help to service 90 million customers, and are available in all states. However, that is not all. At Cigna we service international insurance. Not only are you able to be insured in the U.S., but we provide insurance overseas as well. We have over 40,000 employees and are available to talk 24/7. This is all to show that if you are covered by Cigna, odds are that you will have a healthy and happy recovery.

Addiction Prevention Tools With Cigna

At Cigna, we have three main prevention tools. One is to prioritize prevention. Viewing addiction as a disease changes the way we treat it. It is no longer a moral code but is not simply another sickness we need to treat. This means we want to treat the whole person in a guilt-free manner. Always looking for symptoms to prevent.

Next, is removing the stigma. The lexicon around addiction is riddled with blame words, that’s why we at Cigna want to change the language and abandon the stigma.

Finally, we want to treat based on evidence. That is why we encourage all providers to use the CDC’s 2016 statement on the use of opioids.

Cigna Policy Coverage for Substance Abuse with Your Policy

Depending on your plan, you may be more or less covered with Cigna. Here are a few examples. Cigna’s lowest plan is the bronze plan, and it offers a few lower premiums. However, the customer might find them getting higher deductibles and paying more out-of-pocket expenses. If someone were to have a gold or platinum plan, on the other hand, you will have more comprehensive coverage with fewer deductibles.

With respect to substance abuse treatment, it will all depend on the plan that you have and the state you live in. The best next step for figuring out what is best for you is to get in contact with Northbound or your service provider. They can review your policy plan and inform you regarding the types of treatment services covered by your plan.

How Cigna Policies Work For Treatment Centers

Cigna’s treatment services will have some coverage in most treatment centers. That being said, it will vary from state to state, hospital to hospital, and so on. These policy plans are ever-changing. It is very rare for a state to have the exact same coverage as a neighboring state. For this reason, we cannot iterate enough, get in contact with Northbound or your service provider.

Does Cigna Need to be In-Network?

While not all Cigna plans are required to be in-network, out of network will require certification. Along with this, out of network care may require you to pay most, or completely out of pocket. This means that some plans cover no out-of-network, leaving you with the entire bill. In cases that require a pre-certification, Cigna will determine what services are covered based on your plan. Look at your policy, or go to the number on the back of your insurance card. This will tell you what is available for you.

About Cigna Coverage for Detoxification

Detox is often a difficult first step for recovery. This is the stage in which you purge all of the toxins from your body. It often has side-effects, some of which can be dangerous. While detox has many horror stories; it is often misunderstood. Doing it on your own should be cautioned against, however doing detox in a treatment facility with medical professionals can help you go through it safely and securely. This is why understanding what detox is covered by your policy is so important. With Cigna, again, it all depends on your policy and location. This usually involves inpatient coverage, so knowing what parts of your inpatient are covered is very important.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Insurance

Again, inpatient coverage will vary according to your plan, policy, and location. Coverage for service at a hospital will differ from coverage for a physician coming to the patient’s home. Some of the inpatient services offered by Cigna may include the following.

  • Acute Inpatient Substance and Drug Detoxification
  • Inpatient Treatment for Substance and Drug Disorders
  • Partial Hospitalization for Substance and Drug Disorders

Costs and Services at Inpatient

  • Bronze Plans-Normally, bronze plans have no coinsurance for in-network providers. This means that Cigna will pick up the costs post-paying the plan’s complete deductible. Out-of-network services, on the other hand, will be covered by some plans while others may not.
  • Silver Plans-The coinsurance for in-network plans can range from 30 to 50 percent post-deductible being met. Similarly to bronze, out-of-network services may or may not be covered depending on the state
  • Gold Plans-Close to coinsurance for silver, Gold ranges from 20-50 percent in-network coverage. Out-of-network ranges by state.
  • Platinum Plans-10 to 30 percent coinsurance after meeting the plan’s deductible. Some plans may cover out-of-network programs at a higher coinsurance percentage.

Coverage for Mental Health Treatment

Mental health is also a topic that needs to be discussed involving insurance. Mental illness on its own is debilitating enough. However, when an addiction co-occurs with a mental illness it becomes a co-occurring disorder. We want you to get your whole self, mind, and body, treated. It can be challenging, but it is best to know which options are available, and what is able to be treated with your Cigna insurance policy. Some of the following are examples of mental illness.

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Eating Disorders

Those with addiction and one of the above disorders can find help dealing with them through their Cigna care provider.
