Barek joined Northbound as a Therapist in 2014 and has been working in the field of chemical dependency since 2011. Prior to joining Northbound, Barek worked with adolescents, adults, couples, and families, focusing on emotional, cognitive, relational, and chemical dependency issues. His experience encompasses problems such as depression, anxiety, violence and sexual assault, anger management, trauma, and various other mood and personality disorders. Barek has conducted lectures, workshops, and has facilitated groups on various topics which have included chemical dependency. Barek received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, as well as his Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University. He uses a multifaceted approach to therapy, utilizing a combination of Object-Relations, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral approaches. His focus in treatment is to help clients increase self–insight, develop effective coping and communication skills, and build healthy and lasting relationships. In his spare time Barek enjoys outdoor activities, reading, camping, and spending time with his wife and two boys.
